BW Offshore and BW Ideol have jointly developed a carbon-reducing ‘Power-to-Platform’ concept. The solution deploys offshore wind turbines on BW Ideol’s patented Damping Pool® floating foundations to enable the electrification of FPSOs and oil and gas platforms.
To enable consistent power supply, a battery energy storage system is integrated into the patented Damping Pool® floating foundation hull. This generic solution can be customised for the needs of each client, whether it is a new greenfield development or brownfield modification of an existing asset.
This development is a testimony to the combined expertise and joint efforts of BW Offshore and BW Ideol, combining 40 years of experience from oil and gas with pioneering experience in design and operation of floating offshore wind turbines. To strengthen our efforts in developing such electrification prospects at the Norwegian Continental Shelf, we have established the Joint Venture company Fram Wind Solutions (owned by BW Offshore (50%), Grieg Kapital (35%), and Fram Green Technology (15%)).
This initiative aligns with BW Offshore’s strategy to create new business in the energy transition, focusing on renewable and low-carbon energy solutions.
