Governance structure

BW Offshore has a well-developed corporate governance structure, and adheres to the Norwegian Corporate Governance Board (NUES) Code of Practice, last updated on 14 October 2021.

Floating wind

BW Offshore has an ambition to generate new revenue streams and deliver strong returns for stakeholders by leveraging our proven capabilities in flexible floating production solutions. We apply our competence and experience to adjacent business segments to capture energy transition opportunities.

BW Offshore and BW Ideol animate the future of decarbonisation of Offshore Oil and Gas Installations with Floating Wind Turbines.
BW Offshore and BW Ideol have jointly developed a carbon-reducing ‘Power-to-Platform’ concept. The solution deploys offshore wind turbines on BW Ideol’s patented Damping Pool® floating foundations to enable the electrification of FPSOs and oil and gas platforms.

To enable consistent power supply, a battery energy storage system is integrated into the patented Damping Pool® floating foundation hull.  This generic solution can be customised for the needs of each client, whether it is a new greenfield development or brownfield modification of an existing asset.

This development is a testimony to the combined expertise and joint efforts of BW Offshore and BW Ideol, combining 40 years of experience from oil and gas with pioneering experience in design and operation of floating offshore wind turbines. To strengthen our efforts in developing such electrification prospects at the Norwegian Continental Shelf, we have established the Joint Venture company Fram Wind Solutions (owned by BW Offshore (50%), Grieg Kapital (35%), and Fram Green Technology (15%)).

This initiative aligns with BW Offshore’s strategy to create new business in the energy transition, focusing on renewable and low-carbon energy solutions.

Low-carbon solutions
We leverage BW Ideol’s floating wind technology to deliver clean and renewable energy into offshore oil and gas assets (such as platforms and FPSOs), significantly reducing reliance on traditional power generation and lowering CO2 and NOx emissions.
Adaptable and scaleable
Our solutions are compatible with existing offshore infrastructure (Brownfield assets) or new developments (Greenfield assets), ensuring flexibility across various environments.
Tailored for tough conditions
Whether facing deep water depths and/or harsh sea states, BW Offshore’s engineering expertise and BW Ideol’s floating wind technology can be customised to meet the specific challenges of your project.

Cutting edge technology

BW Ideol's proven "damping pool" technology coupled with wind turbines can be strategically deployed in the close vicinity of offshore platforms or FPSOs.
The clean, renewable electricity generated by these Floating Wind Turbines significantly reduces the platform's reliance on traditional power generation, running on either fuel, gas or diesel. In addition to lowering CO2 and NOx emissions, it allows for increasing gas export or storage by reducing the gas consumption for onboard power generation.

BW Offshore's solution takes innovation a step further by seamlessly integrating a battery storage system within the damping pool's structure. This system provides sufficient energy to manage wind fluctuations. This approach addresses the intermittent nature of wind power by allowing for smooth and uninterrupted operations of the oil and gas asset.

BW Offshore, with its international operational experience, is well-equipped to provide adaptive solutions that meet the demands of this changing regulatory environment. By combining BW Ideol's innovative floating wind technology with BW Offshore's proven project delivery and operational expertise, this integrated approach stands as a robust response to the energy challenges facing the offshore industry today.
